    WPC defined metal objects that can be placed between Qi wireless transmitters and receivers and used to evaluate the FOD operation and performance.
    Description
    The Qi Foreign Objects are WPC defined metal objects that can be placed between Qi wireless transmitters and receivers and used to evaluate the FOD operation and performance. These objects may be used for conducting temperature rise tests required for both transmitter and receivers.


    APPLICATION

    Product developers looking to quickly characterize and test wireless power transmitter and receiver foreign object detection (FOD) performance. WPC specified foreign objects with attached thermocouples are used to monitor temperature rise at the interface surface per WPC requirements. These objects are useful for design debugging, characterization/tuning, and Qi pre-compliance testing.

    Operation method:

    A:K-type thermocouple plug, connect to the temperature recorder

    B:Insulating board and foreign objects

    C:Receiver present

    D: Transmitter(Test sample)



    1.Connect the test sample to the power supply

    2. Connect the thermocouple plug to the temperature recorder

    3. Connect the receiver to the load

    During each cycle, the foreign object shall be moved on the transmitter to determine the highest temperature.

    Part A: The test is performed by powering up the transmitter and then placing each of the foreign objects specified in 9.6.2 in direct contact with the transmitter. This part has four cycles:

    one without a receiver present and with the foreign object in direct contact with the

    transmitter;

    one with a receiver placed in direct contact with the foreign object;

    one with a receiver placed at a vertical distance of 2 mm from the foreign object

    one with a receiver placed at a vertical distance of 5 mm from the foreign object.

    Part B: The test is repeated by first placing each of the foreign objects specified in 9.6.2 in

    direct contact with the transmitter and then powering up transmitter. The four cycles of Part A are then repeated.

    During the tests of both part A and part B:

    the temperature of the foreign object shall not exceed 85 for the steel disk, 120 for the aluminium ring and 155 for aluminium foil; and

    the temperature of the transmitter shall not exceed the TS2 limits specified in Table 37.
